Short Story Explorers Thursdays 11:30 AM-12:30 PM Teacher: Joy Tanksley Course Cost: $80-305 (sliding scale, see below) Course Duration: 12 weeks Ages: 12+ Course Description: From creepy thriller classics like “The Tell Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe to thought-provoking and relatable coming-of-age narratives like “The Party” by Pam Muñoz Ryan, short stories provide a rich, diverse literary landscape for tweens and teens to explore. Learners will journey through a wide selection of short stories from the 20th and 21st centuries using a variety of methods for engaging with the text, including whole class discussion, small group activities, journaling, dramatic reenactment, and more. Our short story odyssey will build language arts skills in vocabulary, comprehension, inferencing, and literary analysis, while also fostering social connections and self discovery.
